This course utilizes the craft of writing and the application of the social science mode of inquiry to the study of the sociocultural characteristics of sports. These include examinations of the cultural, economic, political and social factors (i.e., race, ethnicity, gender and class). Focus is placed on the characteristics of sports and how these characteristics both reflect and have impacted upon the social climate of the United States.
